Candie's Leg Surgery
Candie is one of the Sheldon horses that came to us with an extremely swollen leg, a condition called lymphangitis. This is a bacterial infection of the lymph nodes. At some point, Candie sustained a wound that not only infected her leg, but caused a great deal of proud flesh to develop. We put her on a course of antibiotics, which has helped reduce the swelling in her leg, and on Thursday April 22, 2015, the vet came out for the first surgery to remove the proud flesh. We are keeping the leg wrapped, and the vet will be back in a few weeks for a second surgery to clean up the edges of the wound. Thank you to everyone who donated toward Candie's surgery and vet care. And thank you to Cindi, Candie's foster home who has done such a great job getting Candie gentled enough to handle her for her surgery. Cindi has done a remarkable job in a very short time getting Candie gentled enough to halter, lead, and pick up her feet! Because of you, this very sweet girl is getting much needed care to heal her leg!

RESCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 8th!!!!
Thank you to everyone who joined us at The Pageant Theater in Chico, CA for the screening of Wild Spirits: Saving America's Mustangs
"Wild mustangs are beautiful, powerful, and majestic but they face uncertainty for their survival out west. The public lands that these horses make a living on is also land for cattle, sheep, wildlife, oil drilling and recreation. Free Spirits-Saving America’s Wild Horses exposes the real reason why these wild horses are being rounded up and put up for adoption. Free Spirits-Saving America’s Wild Horses follows the US government as they round up the horses, while also following the horse activist and organizations as they try to stop these round ups by buying a lot of the rounded up horses. Young children fight to save these wild horses by forming a non-profit organization to bring public awareness of these wild horse's plight."

Wyatt is SAFE!!!
He is a branded, titled BLM Mustang. The Mustang Project would like to rescue this horse from going to slaughter. He is currently in a feed lot in Falon, NV and it will cost $450 to bail him out so he doesn't end up on the slaughter truck. We don't have a lot of time!!! Maybe until Wed (12/12/12). Please spread the word far and wide He's young (yearling) and quite "meaty" just what the kill buyers like.
UPDATE! Enough donations were raised to pay the bail and do a Coggins test and health certificate. We picked him up on 12/19/12 and he is settling in to his new location. He has a little cough and runny nose, but the vet says not to worry unless he is not eating or drinking. A great big THANK YOU to all who donated, and to Laura Bell of Starlight Sanctuary who brought this guy to our attention and worked with the feed lot to rescue him. We will keep everyone updated on his progress.
